THE SPIRIT OF HORSES
.....To be a true horseman you must know the truth about the spirit of horses. Some trainers believe that a horse has two spirits, one good and the other bad. The bad one must be broken so you can train the good one. That’s where the expression to break a horse comes from. The spirit is the doorway to everything that the horse was meant to be. Why would we ever want to harm any part of it? A dead broke horse may be preferred by some. Personally I'd rather have my horses alive in spirit and rich in training. That other way of thinking has ruined some great horses. Every horse has just one spirit and it's all good. We can train our horses through their spirit instead of breaking it! My method of training is based on the principle that governs a horses behavior. Colts started in this way of training are eager and willing to learn. The problem horse learns to overcome fear with a restored self esteem and new confidence. Riders become more in tune and sensitive to their horses, creating a greater bond of trust and communication between them. |
